Online company info 'must be easy to understand'

It is vital that website pages explaining what an organisation does are as usable and easy to understand as possible, according to one expert.
Usability guru Jakob Nielsen wrote in his latest Alertbox column that while studies show that 'about us' page usability has increased by nine per cent in the last five years, businesses need to make this section's content concise and clear.
He criticised websites that overuse marketing speak and fail to offer a clear picture of what the organisation actually does, giving the example of one site that had the line: 'X Corporation provides highly specialised services to businesses of all types throughout North America'.
"Aside from giving the company's geographical focus, this content-free statement was useless," Mr Nielsen said.
Last year, small business expert Anita Campbell wrote on the Inc Technology website that content on 'about us' pages should be brief, credible and include contact information.
