Search marketing predicted to boom in UK

Search engine marketing will see strong growth in the UK this year, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has said in a new report.

The organisation predicted that spending on the advertising medium will rise by 30 per cent in 2008, compared with growth of 20 per cent for the overall online marketing sector.

This is in spite of the economic downturn that is affecting a number of other industries at the moment, PwC noted.

"Achieving double-digit growth in tough economic conditions is impressive; not many industries will achieve this," said PwC partner Nick George.

The company added that it is likely display ads will remain vulnerable to changing economic conditions, however.

This follows recent research by Nielsen Online showing that spending on display ads by financial services firms dropped by 27 per cent during the first six months of 2008 compared with the same period in 2007.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18797589-ADNFCR
