Online retailers may benefit from adding video to their marketing efforts, it has been claimed.

Harris Interactive research presented at the recent Las Vegas conference of the Electronic Retailing Association indicated that consumers are increasingly turning to the web to conduct a variety of activities, including media consumption, shopping and watching videos.

As a result, retailers would do well to look at how video can help them to engage customers on the web and potentially increase sales levels, Harris Interactive suggested.

"You can't talk to [consumers] unless you are first entertaining them," said Marianne Foley, senior-vice president of innovation initiatives at Harris Interactive, according to DMNews.

"They are looking for something entertaining and informative at the same time."

Recent comScore figures suggested that over 11.4 billion online videos were watched by US consumers in July, with most views taking place on Google's YouTube website.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18797548-ADNFCR
