More people are using their mobile phones to access the internet, a new report has suggested.
Software company Opera looked at how users of its mobile browser Mini browsed the internet, coming to the conclusion that it is not just the biggest, most popular website that are being surfed by these consumers.
In the UK, just over four in ten of total page views through Opera Mini were attributable to websites outside of the top 100 - or the long tail - in August, the company noted.
Opera chief executive Jon von Tetzchner explained the implications of the findings, stating: "The presence of the long tail bolsters our belief in One Web, our long-held vision that you should be able to have access to the same sites and services regardless of the device."
A recent poll of users of the Broadband Anywhere BT ToGo smartphone said that retailers should be more aware of the fact that consumers are now capable of connecting to the mobile web while in-store to check prices and reviews.
