'Incorporate SEO into small business web design'

Small businesses gearing up for the launch of a new website should think about incorporating search engine optimisation (SEO) principles from the start.
This is the advice of Forbes writer Melanie Lindner, who said that SEO can begin even before the website has been completed.
Companies could ask their web host to attach meta tags for about 20 of their top keywords and then add a 'website under construction' message to the homepage while the rest of the site is being completed, she commented.
More relevant keywords can also be added to other web pages to ensure that search engine rankings are as high as possible, Ms Lindner said.
"The most gorgeous, easily navigated site in the world won't do much good if no one can find it. That's why SEO - the art of rising to the top of the search stacks on Google and Yahoo! - is so important," she stated.
In 2006, a survey by the UK Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform indicated that 69 per cent of small businesses run their own website.
