New research from comScore has revealed that three-quarters of American internet users watched a total of 11.4 billion videos online during July.

Each web user watched 80 videos lasting 2.9 minutes each on average, the study suggested, with the most popular online destinations for clips being Google-owned sites.

YouTube accounted for the most clip views during the month, while sites owned by Fox Interactive Media, Microsoft and Yahoo were ranked behind Google.

In total, Google websites represented 44 per cent of all video views, equivalent to over five billion clips.

Google is currently testing new ad forms for the YouTube website in an attempt to wring further revenues from the popular property, according to reports last month.

These ads include animated, text and display formats. Google has also confirmed that it is testing ads on the mobile version of the video-sharing site.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18775398-ADNFCR
