Internet habits 'to develop beyond website browsing'

Web 2.0

The rise of internet connectivity in the UK coupled with technological advances mean that the online channel is set to become more useful for communications.

This is according to comments made by Web-User magazine news editor Ben Camm-Jones, who said that the beginning of the rollout of new fibre optic networks is a signifier of how an internet connection can mean more than simply being able to look at web pages.

He cited the rise of services such as online voice calling as a key part of the future development of the internet as a communications medium.

"We will have a network that is much more suitable for all of the purposes that it is required for, not just people at home looking at a website," Mr Camm-Jones stated.

"The data speeds will be phenomenal compared with what we are used to."

According to recent figures from the Office for National Statistics, about two-thirds of UK households now have access to the internet.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18773358-ADNFCR
