Search engines 'generating satisfaction among most users'

New research has indicated that some search engine optimisation strategies seem to be successful as three-quarters of web users are able to find what they are looking for in the first search results page.
According to Ipsos Reid, the survey of Canadian internet users showed that eight in ten respondents expressed satisfaction with the overall offerings from the major search engines.
Despite this, the poll suggested that more work has to be done to generate the same levels of trust in paid search, with 62 per cent of web users saying they were doubtful over the reliability of pay-per-click ads.
However, Mark Laver of Ipsos Reid remarked: "The measures search engines have taken to place advertisements away from regular search results is proving to be very pleasing for the online community and may change opinions of paid search advertising in the coming years."
Google recently topped the University of Michigan's American Consumer Satisfaction Index in the search and portals category.
