Successful sites 'must fulfil the basics'
Internet Marketing

It is important to do well on the basics in order to run a successful website, it has been claimed.
According to E-consultancy editor-in-chief Chris Lake, it can be hugely beneficial to get started with basic elements such as search engine optimisation (SEO), blogs and rich media like videos.
He said that this is a sound way for those with limited marketing budgets to begin on the internet and highlighted the importance of looking for outside help if needed.
"Read up on how to make your site search engine-friendly and, if you can afford it, look at employing a search agency or a search expert in-house," Mr Lake suggested.
Blogs and videos can enhance an online reputation in different ways to SEO, as evidenced by those businesses that have posted such content only to see it rocket in popularity on social sites such as Digg, YouTube and Yahoo! Buzz.
The Royal Bank of Scotland, Auto Trader and Liverpool FC were among those with the best websites in their respective categories last year, according to websiteoftheyear.co.uk.
