Browser wars hot up with Google Chrome

Google has revealed that it is releasing a new browser with the intention of supporting the proliferation of modern web apps on the internet today.

In a post on the Official Google Blog, Google's Sundar Pichai and Linus Upson announced that Google Chrome will become available for free from today (September 2nd), albeit in beta format and for Windows only initially.

The browser makes use of a new JavaScript engine, V8, and has a streamlined, clean look.

It also differs from today's most popular browsers by placing an address bar in each tab rather than having just one bar for all of the tabs opened.

The announcement was made after a comic book detailing the browser's features was released early by accident.

Mr Pichai and Upson stated: "The web gets better with more options and innovation. Google Chrome is another option and we hope it contributes to making the web even better."

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 was launched by Microsoft last week, while Firefox 3 was released in June.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18760134-ADNFCR
