Live Feed launched by Facebook

Web 2.0

01 September 2008

A new feature has been launched on Facebook to allow members to see real-time updates on their friends' activities.

Situated on the homepage under its own tab, the Live Feed service adds new friend stories as they happen and may be an incentive for users to keep the website open continuously rather than log in once a day, according to Tech Digest.

The Live Feed allows users to see stories in their traditional full-length formats or as summaries in Log Mode.

CNET News.com's Harrison Hoffman commented that the service seems to compete directly with the likes of FriendFeed and Twitter, noting that both of the latter do not yet enjoy the mainstream popularity of Facebook.

"By exposing its large user base to these features that FriendFeed and Twitter have perfected, Facebook poses a real threat," he commented.

More than 100 million people are now registered with Facebook, the website announced on its blog last week.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18758085-ADNFCR
