Expert: Ensure websites meet customer requirements
Web Design

Companies creating a new website or undergoing a redesign project should concentrate on meeting the needs of the customer first, according to Gerry McGovern of Customer Carewords.
The web experience expert said that it is essential businesses focus on the customer, as it can be too easy to slip into a cycle where improvements are made based on the whims of staff rather than usefulness.
He gave the example of Google and Yahoo!, explaining that while Yahoo! enjoys more page impressions than its rival, Google reaps more in the way of profits as it delivers highly relevant ads to users.
Mr McGovern went on to warn that internal web development teams can "lack that crucial and constant interaction with customers ... [causing them] to fall back on opinions and redesigns and quickly lose sight of the purpose of what they are doing".
According to usability expert Jakob Nielsen, about ten per cent of web development budgets are spent on improving the website experience for users.
