Website back-ups 'should not be overlooked'

Businesses should do more to protect themselves against the possible of website downtime, according to one expert,
According to Guy Bunker, chief scientist at security firm Symantec, companies would be well-advised to set up a second website to deploy just in case something happens to the main site.
While this is a common practice in disaster recovery and business continuity planning operations, some organisations do forget that their websites represent an important business asset, he warned.
"Part of a disaster recovery solution would be to monitor the website - monitoring the website is only really useful if you can do something about it 'automatically' if you detect the problem," Mr Bunker stated.
UK supermarket Sainsbury's suffered from website downtime earlier this year following a problem at its network provider, Cable & Wireless - potentially resulting in customers going to the company's competitors for goods.
