Retailers advised to embrace organic SEO
E-commerce
31 July 2008
Retailers with online e-commerce portals should do more to ensure they are making the most of natural search engine optimisation, it has been claimed.
A new piece of research from Internet Retailer suggests that when it comes to some of the most important retail keywords, online stores seem to rank below informational and non-retail sites in most cases.
It found that less than 50 per cent of the top three search ranking spots in 20 categories are accounted for by retailers and that only two companies were responsible for more than one position in 60 spots.
The study comes shortly after the Internet Advertising Bureau conducted research revealing that the internet is the most significant factor influencing brand engagement for UK consumers when it comes to retail.
Internet Retailer said: "Appearing in natural search results is key to a website's success.
"Several studies have shown that consumers' eyes jump over paid results and go direct to natural."
