The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has announced the publication of a new set of standards aimed at those developing websites for the mobile platform.
Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 includes guidelines on how developers can deal with issues such as diversity of software and hardware, constraints associated with individual devices and bandwidth limitations.
Some of the practical elements discussed in the standards include page scrolling and data input. W3C also said that it has been looking at factors such as mobile markup languages and mobile application development, as well as creating tools to help businesses to test mobile sites.
"Mobile web content developers now have stable guidelines and maturing tools to help them create a better mobile web experience," commented Dominique Hazael-Massieux, W3C mobile web activity lead.
Chris Smith of Autoglass recently told E-consultancy that one of the main challenges of developing a mobile-specific website is coping with the requirements of browsers on different phones.
