'More opportunity' for paid-subscription Facebook games

Games and other paid-subscription applications on Facebook have been identified as an up-and-coming advertising model at a social networking conference.
A number of microtransition systems were on show at the f8 conference - an event targeted at developers of Facebook applications - earlier this week, according to internetnews.com.
These systems enable Facebook users to purchase subscription games using payment systems such as Paypal and Google Checkout.
According to the chief operating officer of Playfish - a Facebook application developer responsible for three online games, including Who Has the Biggest Brain? - there is plenty of potential for growth with paid subscription social media games.
"Instead of having to go to the store to buy games, we saw the platform launch as a great opportunity to bring games to people where they are," he told the news site.
The f8 conference in San Francisco was attended by around 1,000 people. Estimates have indicated that up to 400,000 people are currently developing applications for the Facebook platform.
It also emerged this week that the makers of popular Facebook application Scrabulous have been faced with an intellectual property lawsuit by game manufacturer Hasbro this week.
Hasbro holds the North American rights to the board game Scrabble.
