Google exec Eric Schmidt has indicated that it may be interested in capitalising on the display advertising sector in the coming months, CNET News reported.
Mr Schmidt told the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in the US that switching to online forms of marketing from offline forms could increase the revenue generated from display advertising.
He stated that the there may be a "pretty large" opportunity for display advertising, adding that the medium often appeals to the same customers who already purchase text advertising space.
Mr Schmidt further suggested that the increased revenue opportunities presented by display advertising may lead to further competition for firms such as Microsoft.
In related news, the official Google blog reported this week that the search engine has launched a new encyclopaedia product entitled Knol.
Similar to Wikipedia, the program allows its users to create articles on any subject, although the Knol product will allow authors to attach their names to their entries.
