Microsoft looks to contextual ads

Categories: Internet Marketing

18 July 2008

Microsoft is testing a program that utilises its adCenter engine to provide contextual ads.

The company began limited testing of the product - which is initially aimed at small publishers and operates in a self-serve format - earlier this year. A customer letter posted by TechCrunch broke the news yesterday (July 17th).

CNET News.com received official confirmation of the pilot program in a statement sent by Microsoft, which read: "It's our intention to continue to expand our high quality network and relevant audience gradually and intelligently over time for our advertisers."

Microsoft recently signed an agreement with health publisher Rodale to provide contextual and paid search advertising for websites such as MensHealth.com, WomensHealthmag.com and Prevention.com.

The company also announced its latest financial results for the 2007-08 financial year yesterday, revealing that it generated $60 billion (£30.1 billion) in sales revenue in the 12 months to June.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18691784-ADNFCR
