Consider crawlers when optimising sites, says expert
Search Engines

Marketers could benefit from focusing on the aspects of their website that search engine crawlers or spiders are likely to look at when planning their search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies, it has been claimed.
The likes of Yahoo! and Google send out crawlers to find out which websites are worthy enough to be included in their listings, as well as to decide which sites are relevant enough to rank highly, entrepreneur Dawn Gibbins wrote on realbusiness.co.uk.
To this end, it may be useful to concentrate on regularly adding fresh content to the website in question, as well as ensure that all pages are relevant and useful to consumers, she advised.
Making good use of keywords and refraining from black hat SEO techniques such as signing up to link farms are also recommended, Ms Gibbins said, commenting: "Google is much too sophisticated to fall for black hat techniques and punishes sites that use them."
Last year, a major update to the PageRank system by Google saw a number of blogs and other websites as a result of unfavourable paid linking practices.
