Ambroise Fensterbank of Google has offered tips on some of the things that marketers can do to organically improve their search rankings.
The search quality evaluator wrote on the Inside AdSense blog that avoiding quick-fix tactics and instead looking at the quality of outgoing and incoming links can be good ways of getting to grips with search engine optimisation.
He also advised webmasters to ensure their site has a clear structure that is easy to get around and to make sure that the relevant alt and title tags are filled in to boost usability.
"Design your site with your users in mind and be patient and consistent in your efforts," Mr Fensterbank commented.
"To attract quality backlinks and develop your optimisation strategy, it's important to keep a clear structure for your pages and regularly add organic content."
The World Wide Web Consortium also advises webmasters to fill in alt tags not only for web usability purposes, but also to attract the attention of search engine bots that may otherwise ignore important sections of web pages.
