Web 2.0
11 July 2008
A new store providing web applications for the new iPhone 3G has been launched today in tandem with the release of the newest handset.
The App Store opened today (July 11th) with hundreds of applications immediately available to owners of the iPhone 3G.
Google, MySpace, AOL, Facebook, eBay, the Associated Press and Travelocity are some of the firms that have come up with programs to help iPhone users get the most from the iPhone's new 3G networking capabilities.
More than 125 of these applications are free of charge to install and range from games and medical tools to productivity programs for business use.
Philip Schiller of Apple said: "iPhone represents a new software platform for developers, combining the most advanced mobile operating system, sophisticated developer tools and a breakthrough way for developers to wirelessly sell and distribute their applications right onto every iPhone."
Google's application allows iPhone owners to conduct web searches in a few touches of the screen, while AOL has offered free versions of its AIM messaging program, Truveo video search engine and AOL Radio service.
