Most web shoppers are happy to use sites they find well presented without checking any security features, according to a PayPoint.net study reported in Computing.

Some 80 per cent of respondents said they trusted sites that were accessible and easy to use without checking its security. And 69 per cent said a site that was well presented was another main factor in influencing their decision to use a site.

Of the 945 web shoppers interviewed, 98 per cent said they undertook one security check on sites and over 90 per cent looked at three or more security features, including the padlock icon on the browser window, clear refund and returns policy or customer testimonials before continuing with a transaction.

Shoppers also preferred bigger brand names, with 97 per cent saying they preferred them to smaller companies' sites.

In related news, a recent YouGov survey showed 57 per cent of nearly 2,000 respondents feared banks and the government were not looking after their details securely.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18676667-ADNFCR
