Make online shopping more personal, says expert

A new study has revealed that many music fans are now turning to online stores and social networks for recommendations, prompting one expert to advise e-retailers to offer a personalised shopping process.
The research by Avail Intelligence showed that websites such as iTunes and Facebook's iLike application are increasingly being used by those seeking guidance on potential purchases, rather than professionally written reviews.
Dr Rolf Elmer, chief executive of the company, said this meant online retailers need to step up their game or risk losing out when it comes to sales of music goods, as consumers are becoming more informed over time.
"Retailers need a robust e-commerce strategy that incorporates social merchandising techniques if they are to take advantage of the interplay among shoppers and increase average basket spend," he remarked.
The European commission recently outlined plans to make it easier for European Union citizens to make cross-border purchases online.
