Website goals 'should be clarified before visuals'

It is good practice to consider the goals of a new website before actually thinking about design, according to one expert.

Speaking to the Newhouse News Service, internet consultant Laura Bergells said that it is a common error to leap straight to design concerns first before clarifying the purpose of a new website, reports the Grand Rapids Press.

Doing this can lead to a website that looks good but lacks the content to draw large numbers of visitors, she warned.

Ms Bergells advised companies to lay out their goals before starting the website design process and to pinpoint the characteristics of their target audience.

"Resist the temptation to start with design. It's about spreading your message and letting people interact with it," she remarked.

Entrepreneur.com recently advised businesses employing the services of a web design agency to make sure they are able to handle the running of the site themselves after the agency's expertise regarding the setting up of the website is no longer needed.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18674739-ADNFCR
