Google highlights new privacy policy link

Google has added a new link to its privacy policy on the main search homepage, with search products and user experience vice president Marissa Meyer claiming the addition to be "a clear win" for users on the company's official blog.

The move comes following weeks of speculation over whether the search engine was breaking the law by omitting the link.

Users clicking on the link are directed to Google's Privacy Centre, which details its own main policy and provides information on privacy policies for services such as AdSense, Gmail, Maps and YouTube.

Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Centre, told CNET News.com: "This was not only required by California law (and Google is a California corporation) but is also the standard practice for commercial websites."

Ms Meyer said on the Google blog that company founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin has said a privacy policy link could only be added if one word was taken away from the homepage, avoiding the need for extra clutter.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18672363-ADNFCR
