A new study has revealed the amount of time Britons spent on popular websites and internet applications in the last 12 months.
The research, carried out by Nielsen Online, showed that British web users spent at least one billion minutes a month on each of MSN Messenger, eBay and Facebook between June 2007 and May 2008.
Meanwhile, at least 500 million monthly user minutes were spent on the likes of Google, Hotmail, Windows Media Player, YouTube, Bebo, iTunes and Yahoo! Mail in this period.
Alex Burmaster of Nielsen Online noted that while social networking sites and applications saw some of the strongest growth year-on-year, other websites should not be discounted altogether.
"Whilst the social media wave continues to have the biggest impact on internet behaviour levels, it's important not to forget that some of online's more traditional sectors continue to perform," he commented.
A recent study from JupiterResearch suggested that the number of people using the internet will grow by 44 per cent by 2012 worldwide.
