Brits go searching for sales
E-commerce

Traffic to online retail sites grew last week thanks to higher numbers of searches for sale-related terms, Hitwise's Robin Goad has said.
Writing in a company blog post, Mr Goad noted that searches for the terms 'sale' and 'sales' rose to highs in the week ending June 28th not seen since the Christmas and New Year shopping period.
He revealed that some retailers benefited from higher clickthroughs via messages sent as part of email marketing campaigns, particularly Play.com, John Lewis and Matalan.
"Given that the search data highlights an appetite for online sales, I'm surprised that retailers are not engaging in more active outbound email campaigns," he commented.
According to recent IDC research, almost half of all web users will make online purchases this year, with over one billion people set to do so by 2012.
The company also predicted that business-to-business e-commerce will rise to new highs in the next four years.
