Half of marketing communications (marcomms) managers never get the exact website they desire for their function, new research has revealed.
The survey, conducted by Coleman Parkes Research for SDL Tridion, showed that disagreements between firms' marketing and IT departments can spell trouble for those looking to create the perfect website.
Findings from the poll show that almost a third of marcomms executives have had to delay campaigns because of problems with launching a new website, while one-third of IT executives believe marketing professionals overemphasise the importance such sites.
Erik Aeyelts Averink, president of SDL Tridion, called on businesses to encourage greater communication between the two departments to avoid endangering their operations by alienating consumers with an inadequate website.
"It is clear there is still a battle raging between the two sides. The website is the unwitting victim and the vital communications channel it represents between the company and its customers is suffering as a result," he explained.
Meanwhile, separate research by SDL Tridion released last week showed that consumers become particularly frustrated with websites that look good but do not work properly or in an accessible manner, citing pop-ups and unnecessary intros as the main bugbears for web users.
