Google turns its hand to online TV

Google is experimenting with the potential offered by video advertising by deploying its AdSense program to distribute a new web-based show.
The New York Times reports that the company has paired up with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane to deliver clips from Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy, an animated series, from September.
These videos will be distributed in place of the static ads usually served up by AdSense and will be placed on thousands of websites across the internet.
Google will attempt to make advertising revenue through the placement of sponsor messages on the clips, such as pre-roll and banner ads.
The news follows another major deal for the AdSense program with Yahoo!, which was announced earlier this month.
Commenting on the Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy scheme, lawyer Karl Austen stated: "What is exciting is that this is a way to monetise the internet immediately.
"Instead of creating a website and hoping Seth's fans find it, we are going to push the content to where people are already at."
