Travel firms seeking to make their online presence more effective should focus on targeting the right audience, according to one expert.
John Till of Travel Weekly remarked that viewing all travellers as coming from the same demographic is commonplace but not conducive to online success.
He cited definitions from Forrester Research of three significant groupings within the travel audience as being a good starting point.
These include business travellers likely to require a fast, efficient service with comparison capabilities, as well as leisure travellers who tend to buy on impulse and those focused on family, who may require high levels of trust and security.
"Privacy policies and tools to ensure secure online transaction will build trust. They're also more discretionary with their disposable income so you need to sell in a different way," Mr Till commented.
According to the Guardian, Expedia is still one of the best sites on the web for buying flights and hotel rooms, thanks to its wide range of options and simple booking process.
