About 3.5 billion online videos were watched by UK web users during March, new figures have revealed.

Statistics from comScore show that 27.4 million Britons in total watched a video over the internet during the month, with Google sites - including YouTube - proving to be the most popular, taking 48 per cent of all clip views.

BBC sites came second with a 1.2 per cent share of all videos watched in March, followed by Fox Interactive Media - owners of MySpace - and Microsoft.

In total, 172 million hours of online video content was watched by UK web users during the month, comScore said.

Meanwhile, a recent study by researchers at Northwestern University in the US showed that men are significantly more likely to post creative work such as videos and films on the internet than women, despite equal proportions of both sexes indulging in creative activities.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18655074-ADNFCR
