About 19 million downloads of the latest version of the Firefox browser have been recorded.
This is according to Mozilla, the company behind the open source browser, which said earlier this week that 19.6 million downloads have been registered in the week following the release of Firefox 3.0, vnunet.com reports.
According to the company, 807,000 downloads were recorded in the UK in the 24 hours after the browser's release, while a Mozilla spokesperson said that Firefox's share of the browser market had crept up from 18.4 per cent in May to just over 19 per cent as of the end of last week, citing figures from Net Applications.
Firefox 3.0 was officially launched on June 17th and offers new features such as significantly faster page loading and processing times, enhanced protection against malware, a new Smart Location Bar in place of the traditional address bar and full-page zoom.
"We're really proud of Firefox 3.0 and it just shows what a committed, energised global community can do when they work together," Mozilla chief executive John Lilly said at the launch.
