Usability market predicted to boom

The market for services that enhance usability and accessibility will soar by 20 per cent this year.
This is according to a new report from E-consultancy, which predicted that the UK market for such services will grow to be worth £214 million by the end of 2008, thanks to increasing numbers of firms committing to making their digital properties more usable by all and rising investment from online marketers.
Linus Gregoriadis, head of research at E-consultancy, said that another reason for the forecast boom is that a number of usability specialists are putting their expertise to use in lucrative non-web activities.
"The growth of this market reflects the ongoing buoyancy of the digital sector and the strategic importance of this channel within businesses," Mr Gregoriadis remarked.
Accessibility expert Chris Rourke noted on the E-consultancy blog earlier this month that one important aspect of making websites usable by all is ensuring that those in charge of maintaining and designing such sites are kept up to date with any customer complaints arising from a lack of accessibility or usability.
