Yahoo! unveils new email domains

Yahoo! has announced the launch of two new domains for use with its email service.

Users can now register for Yahoo! Mail addresses ending with ymail.com or rocketmail.com, doing away with the need to come up with ever more creative ways of registering a desirable username, the company said.

It explained that because of the worldwide popularity of its email service, many of the most coveted Yahoo! Mail addresses have now been taken, prompting the need to make more available.

The launch comes after Yahoo! commissioned Harris Interactive to carry out a survey into email address preferences, revealing that seven in ten respondents would prefer to have some part of their real name included in their email address.

"We recognise that people want an email address that reflects who they are, whether they are signing up for an email address for the first time, or simply updating their email pseudonym to reflect the stage they are at in life," commented John Kremer, vice president of Yahoo! Mail.

RocketMail was an email system that was acquired by Yahoo! in 1997.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18648819-ADNFCR
