Web design 'can be both user and success-focused'

Web developers should not cling to the idea that a successful design can only be user-centric, it has been claimed.
Speaking at the Web Content 2008 event, Jerome Nadel of training organisation Human Factors International said that web designers should not be afraid of switching to a more success-centric focus, CMSWire reports.
He advised developers to consider the business model in question and the criteria for a successful site, as well as benchmarking and the target audience, before considering design issues.
Despite this, Mr Nadel did not dismiss the notion of user-centric design altogether, emphasising that understanding the psychology of users can help to bring visitors to sites and make them more engaged with the company.
John Lovett of JupiterResearch also told the event that the biggest challenge for firms looking to get to grips with dynamic website content lies in generating such content in the first place, with this being a particular issue for the media industry, reports CMSWire.
