The month of May saw MySpace keep its title as the most popular social networking website in the US, according to Hitwise.
Releasing its statistics yesterday (June 18th), the company revealed that 72.73 per cent of all social network visits took place on MySpace, representing a six per cent decline compared with May 2007.
Meanwhile, Facebook, which placed second, closed the gap between itself and MySpace by increasing visitor numbers by 42 per cent compared with last year, gaining 16.24 per cent of total social networking visits.
Hitwise indicated that visits to social media sites could grow further in the near future.
It said: "With school out for many students, there is a good chance that the visits to social networking websites could increase during the summer months."
MySpace president Tom Anderson recently told the BBC's Newsbeat that the website's redesign, rolled out this week, was needed to make it more appealing to a broader range of users.
