Google-owned properties were the most popular among American web users searching for online videos in April, new statistics have revealed.

Thanks to its ownership of YouTube, Google topped a league that also saw Fox Interactive Media - which owns MySpace - and the likes of Yahoo! and Microsoft near the top.

Compiled by comScore, the research showed that some 11 billion online clips were watched by 135 million US internet users in April, with four billion seen on YouTube alone.

The average viewer watched 228 minutes of clips in total over the course of the month, while the average video lasted about 2.8 minutes.

Last month, ABI Research predicted that more than one billion web users around the world will access online videos by 2013 as a result of increasing internet speeds and growing broadband penetration.

ABI senior analyst Cesar Bachelet said: "The rapid expansion of broadband video creates opportunities across a number of market sectors."ADNFCR-1093-ID-18645061-ADNFCR
