Microsoft has revealed that it is to set up a new facility to conduct research into search technology at a European location.
Announced at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival yesterday (June 17th), the Search Technology Centre will see Microsoft's Live Search team work closely with it to help advance the company's position in the online search and advertising markets, the firm said.
The new facility follows on from the opening of a similar centre in Beijing in 2005. Microsoft stated that it has not yet decided on a specific European location but indicated that it may place teams across several regions, including the UK, Germany and France.
"We're already doing some great work in Europe in the enterprise search space through our January 2008 acquisition of Fast Search & Transfer and we're looking forward to opening the European Search Technology Centre to further our investments," remarked Satya Nadella of Microsoft.
The company also announced this week that it is acquiring TV advertising solution provider Navic Networks for an undisclosed sum.
