Among Firefox 3.0's features are faster page loading, a facility that allows users to return to previously visited sites without bookmarking them and improved security,.
Mike Schroepfer, vice-president of engineering at the Mozilla Foundation, told the BBC: "This is the biggest release by far of Firefox."
Firefox is currently the second most popular internet browser in the world behind Microsoft's Internet Explorer, according to recent research by Net Applications.
