The internet has created an instant response culture, where people expect immediate replies to their emails, according to author Matthew Beaumont.

Business response times to enquiries have fallen rapidly and Mr Beaumont placed the responsibility for our accelerated communications with the web.

"Everything is on the internet and it has got faster and faster as a means of communication and as a means of getting information," he commented.

Bryony Clow, mobile email expert for Vodafone, claimed it was also related to the publics awareness of new mobile technology.

"I think it is a combination of this instant gratification society, coupled with the fact that people know mobile email is out there and other people responding in meetings or when they are out of the office," she said.

According to an annual Bellwether survey of the nation's firms, response times are essential in securing business deals - it revealed one in seven UK companies now demand a response in just 30 minutes.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18641304-ADNFCR
