Internet service provider (ISP), Carphone Warehouse, has seen its shares fall after lower than expected broadband sales.
It revealed positive mobile phone deals but said home broadband sales had been weakened by a slowdown in the housing market and increased mobile broadband connections.
Finance director, Roger Taylor, told Reuters: "The environment is difficult for everyone and everything at the moment."
Mr Taylor remained confident the company's business model was strong suggesting "maybe people are thinking now isn't the time to sign up to something."
The group reported revenue up 12 per cent to £4,474 million and headline profit, before tax, increased 75 per cent to £216 million.
Charles Dunstone, chief executive officer, was confident the company had performed well but remained cautious "given the poor economic climate and inflationary pressures on European consumers".
The UK's economic growth has slowed and several commentators have warned of a coming period of recession.
