Google has widened the gap between it and the nearest US search competitor, analyst Hitwise has confirmed.
During May, Google accounted for 68.2 per cent of all US searches, an increase from 67.9 per cent in April.
Second in the search rankings was Yahoo!, which achieved 19.9 per cent, followed by MSN Search (5.8 per cent), and Ask.com (4.2 per cent).
"Americans conducted 10.6 billion searches at the core search engines, representing a two-per cent decline versus March," rival analyst, comScore, revealed.
Its results were slightly different, although it confirmed Google's increased popularity over its rivals.
It claimed Google extended its share of core searches to 61.6 per cent in April, up from 59.8 per cent in March - Yahoo! ranked second with 20.4 per cent, almost one per cent lower than the previous month.
