Zuckerberg wants 'face-to-face'

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of social networking site, Facebook, wants to have a face-to-face with search engine, Google and sort out compatibility issues.

Google has recently launched Friends Connect, which allows users to add social networking features to their sites but has failed when paired with Facebook.

"We want to talk to Google about this and see if there's a way we can make it work," said Mr Zuckerberg.

He noted Google could share some personal information with third-parties without users knowing. "And part of what makes our system work is that people know exactly who they are sharing all their information with," he added.

Mr Zuckerberg faced a user revolt last year after Facebook's advertising programme, Beacon, was found to share users' product purchases with their friends, before asking their permission.

He explained the move to introduce Friends Connect came as a surprise as it was launched "without asking us or talking to us about it first".

There is evidence of a new 'divergence' across the web as more companies seek to create shared platforms, such as OpenSocial.
