Microsoft wants a piece of Yahoo!

Microsoft has made a new bid for Yahoo!, but this time only for a part of the search company.
The company said it was still keen to find ways of increasing its online services and advertising businesses.
By making a "transaction with Yahoo! but not an acquisition of all of Yahoo!, Microsoft is not proposing to make a new bid to acquire all of Yahoo! at this time," it said.
However, Bill Gates' software giant went on to add that by taking this step it "reserves the right to reconsider that alternative depending on future developments".
Its previous attempt flopped, following Jerry Yang's rejection of Microsoft's improved offer.
Yahoo!'s board is under pressure from a rogue investor takeover attack.
The move has been instigated by billionaire investor Carl Icahn, who has prepared a board in waiting, in case he is successful.
