Online comments are most likely to be positive, a software provider has claimed.

Bazaarvoice found that four-fifths of consumers write upbeat comments and claimed it was a good way to attract people to a site.

"Some of the world's biggest online brands are seeing the tangible business benefits of adding authentic consumer reviews to their web sites," noted chief executive officer, Brett Hurt.

Its research assessed 34,000 customer reviews across ten retail categories and reflected the increasing amount of user-generated content on the web.

Additional research by Experian predicted the rise of super advocates, members of the community that can influence others through citizen journalism.

"The super advocate will pose one of the biggest challenges facing companies trying to tap into user-generated content as an advertising and marketing channels," it claimed.
