China takes web crown
Web 2.0

China has more internet users than the US and hosts the web's biggest single internet population, it has been reported.
Beijing-based research firm, BDA China, claimed in February the country had more than 220 million people online.
The gap is set to widen as the country only has 17 per cent of its population connected to the web, while the US already has 71 per cent.
The Chinese authorities are reported to restrict access to certain sites and are reluctant to embrace a fully 'open' internet.
Despite this, western companies are keen to be involved in the country's adoption of technology and are facing competition from its home grown talents, such as search engine, Baidu.
Macworld has reported BDA China's chairman, Duncan Clark, saying the Chinese government "continues to filter the internet and encourage self-censorship, it also has a mandate to promote cheaper technology and the knowledge economy".
