Social sites among web's least trusted

Social networking sites are among the internet's least trusted, new research has found.
A YouGov poll for comparison site Pricerunner.co.uk revealed only 12 per cent of those questioned trusted either Facebook or YouTube.
Its managing director, Mattias Berg said it was recent stories about sites," holding a vast amount of personal information about us" and users viewing identity fraud and advertising tools as "invasive" that had affected opinion.
Amazon (62 per cent) and Google (57 per cent) were the most trusted and 41 per cent of people questioned said they were more likely to trust sites that also had an offline presence.
Mr Berg advised that with consumer spending at an all time high, people should "do their research before making any purchase to ensure that they get the best deal possible from sources they trust".
Ofcom, in its latest assessment, said the growth of social networks is "indicative of its entry into mainstream culture and its integration into the daily lives of
many people".
