Phorm has admitted it edited out facts from a Wikipedia article about itself.
The Register has reported the tracking and ad-targeting firm said in an email: "We wanted to clarify a number of inaccuracies in the Wikipedia entry on Phorm."
A number of edits were made by Phorm employees, which were later found to remove factual information and contravene the site's editing policy.
"Having reviewed our suggested changes with hindsight, we accept that we were a little over zealous in our efforts to make those corrections," Phorm told the in an email.
According to the Register, it deleted a link to the site's report on Phorm's 2006 trial of its controversial ad-tracking software and a passage explaining BT's admission of misleading customers.
Wikipedia is a prime example of collaborative working, however, its open editing system has led to a number of fake posts and universities and colleges are wary of its credibility.
BT has announced it will go ahead with a further trial of its new ad-targeting software, this time with volunteers.
