The design is in the detail

Websites with detail will keep potential customers on-site for longer, one industry expert has claimed.

Dr Adam Le Gresley from Technology Means Business said that websites need to give much more than product information and should be designed with the user in mind.

"Short information pieces will hold people's attention on your website and may lead to sales or further enquiries," he noted.

"Equally, having a website which has some level of detail will hold potential customers for longer."

Despite the internet's increased penetration, the BBC recently reported figures from the Federation of Small Businesses, which revealed less than half of UK's small to medium-sized businesses have a presence online.

Dr Le Gresley suggested retailers should imagine their potential customers are new to their market place and want to "understand more about the options that are out there".
