Microsoft promises fifth computer revolution

Steve Ballmer took Bill Gates' place on stage at the CeBIT conference this year and talked of a fifth computer revolution.
The executive noted a repetitive seven-year development cycle and laid out his predictions for the future of computing.
Mr Ballmer explained that changes made possible by advanced software could help the world react to climate change and help deliver mass education and medication.
"High-speed connections are everywhere, and systems can be operated with voice and gesture input," he commented
His predictions were welcomed by the German chancellor Angela Merkel who also gave a speech, sayiing: "Be excited about technology, provided it serves people."
The CeBIT conference is the world's largest computer tradeshow and is held in Hannover, Germany.
This year it has featured new examples of office communication, desktop computer design and advanced memory sticks.
